aVara - I create as I speak

The word aVara comes from a (very) old Hebrew expression avara k’davara (believed to possibly be the root of ‘abracadabra’), which means I create as I speak. aVara represents the fact that:

  • Our world is created in language (otherwise how would you know the things that you’re looking at right now are called words?! Or that those two things back there are a question mark and an exclamation! mark?)
  • We feel what we think, or put another way, your thoughts determine how you feel
  • Our language and words can change our life, and the world.

Thinking about driving in a rally car at 200km/hr as exciting and exhilarating, or as terrifying and dangerous, gives you two completely different sensations in your body, doesn’t it? The difference was in the language. Certain words connect you with particular images, sounds, smells, tastes and emotions that create your state in that moment. Your words create your reality - inside you and outside. When your language changes, so does your experience of life. What do you want to create?

Using Your Brain on Purpose: In Business

Successful people aren’t usually successful due to sheer good luck. Studies of those who do well show they have beliefs about what they can achieve that propel them towards that. Using Your Brain on Purpose: Transforming Stress Using Your Brain on Purpose: Transforming Stress

Understanding how our mind and body works is the most powerful way of getting in charge of stress patterns. Moshe Feldenkrais said “if you know what you do, you can do what you want.” Not only does Karen ask, “Are you using your brain on purpose?!” but she also delves into the nuts and bolts of how stress is created in the body so that it can be changed. She doesn‘t talk about ‘managing’ stress, but rather transforming stress into positive energy. As well as some myth-busting around stress she will give your audience some tools they can walk away with and use immediately. In the midst of their curiosity and enjoyment they won’t even realise they‘re learning!

Using Your Brain on Purpose: Managing People

How effectively people are managed can make the difference between enjoying or dreading coming to work. Growing research demonstrates that people often don’t leave companies so much as they leave managers. This suggests it is a person’s immediate manager or ‘boss’ who has the most impact on their every day work life.

Having trained hundreds of managers around the world, Karen has discovered some of the distinctions between managers who manage well and those who don’t. She talks about three of the most notable distinctions: how people think of themselves as people managers, how they feel about the ‘tough’ conversations, and what they think their role is, all of which can have a profound effect on their success. Karen looks at how using your brain on purpose as a manager can make the difference, not only to your team, but your enjoyment as a manager. When people feel they are being developed, recognised and rewarded, they are likely to more engaged. In turn, the organisation can enjoy higher morale, productivity and retention rates.

I Create as I Speak I Create as I Speak

Discover how language can transform not only how you think about the world, but how you succeed in it. Language is so powerful - just think about how certain words and phrases people use can influence so suddenly and significantly. Consider the feeling you get when you think of the word ‘Auschwitz’ versus the feeling you get when you think of ‘freedom’. Freedom feels pretty good, huh? And it’s just a word!

Karen looks at how we can use the power of our language to create the life we want and be successful - in business, relationships and even as a parent. Children receive our words everyday and we often don’t realise what messages we are sending. As do our partners, colleagues and subordinates. Let your audience discover what they didn’t know they didn’t know about how their language can transform their world!
